Developed shortly after the BATTLE OF YAVIN, the unusual "TANDEM-X" was intended as a replacement for the aging, but venerable, Y-WING STARFIGHTER. Based off the X-WING variants in use at the time, the T-65T was designed almost explicitly for use as an assault fighter and close-support craft.
At 90 MGLT the T-65T is faster than the earlier T-65B, although is easily outpaced by newer X-WING. The ship's increased mass reduces her manoeuvrability, although she's still a more than adequate dogfighter. However, her most impressive feature is firepower. The TANDEM-X carries a load of twenty HEAVY PROTON TORPEDOES, more punch than virtually any other starfighter in use.
Despite impressive combat performance, lack of money and resources and a shortage of personnel to provide a required bombardier/navigator, limited the numbers of these fighters produced in favour of the far more versatile standard X-WING models. Following the BATTLE OF HOTH, most T-65Ts with frontline ALLIANCE squadrons were replaced with the more rugged B-WING HEAVY ASSAULT STARFIGHTER.

The ship was modeled mostly out of boredom and after flipping through Crimson Empire II. I found the design quite interesting and thought it would make for a great OPT. So far the ship hasn't appeared elsewhere officially, and I'm not entirely sure on the stats of the fighter, as the only ones I could find came from a fan site so I can't vouch for their officiality.
Note : Due to some issues with the stats the Tandem-X replaces the Missile Boat in order to work properly, (be sure to backup you Missile Boat stats first). In missions and skirmish I recommend arming the ship with ADVANCED proton torpedoes to represent the heavier-than-standard torpedoes the ship is supposed to carry. In addition, to simulate the presence of a second crewman dedicated to aiming the fighters weaponry I would set the fighter's AI to one of the higher settings, preferably Top Ace or Super Ace.

Note : Even though this is a Xwing, and could be placed in the Xwing slot, please note that if placed in the Xwing slot the S-Foils will not open or close due to the way this opt has been made. The only things that will rotate are the pilots heads.
All textures are based off the Crimson Empire II picture as seen to the left, the size difference is due to the T-65 A2 X-wing being 12.5m and the T-65T X-wing Tandem X 15.1m in length.
