Note: This pack now contains the A New Hope version of the
TIE Fighter, you can either select one or the other
but not both.
Sienar Fleet System's
TIE (Twin Ion Engine) fighter is the clearest symbol
of the Imperial Navy's control of space. TIE Fighters
are present aboard even the smallest Imperial cruisers
and are stationed at starports and garrison bases
across the galaxy, an ever present reminder of the
Empires might.
Tie fighters are short
range ships whose most distinguishing feature is the
pair of dominant solar arrays wings mounted on either
side of a small, spherical command pod. The TIE fighter
presents a small target from the front and back, and
it's incredible manoeuvrability makes it difficult
to hit in combat.
One TIE Fighter may
be vulnerable to attack and may be easily destroyed,
but for every TIE that is defeated, thousands more
will rise up. In battle, an Imperial cruiser can arrive
near an enemy ship and launch all of its TIE's before
Rebel gunners have a chance to respond. TIE fighters
are used for planetary and cruiser defence as well
as in assaults against Rebel, pirate, and alien vessels. |

This short-range fighter
was first manufactured soon after the Battle of Yavin,
and became abundant by the time of the Emperor's fall.
It is faster more manoeuvrable, and far more lethal
than the standard TIE fighter.
This Interceptor uses
the standard TIE cockpit, drive pod, and wing braces.
The solar collector panels have been elongated and
bent, providing extra power while not limiting the
pilot field of vision. The solar panels appear to
be "dagger-shaped", making the interceptor
far more intimidating while giving it a smaller profile,
making it harder for opposing gunner to target.
For weaponry, the Interceptor
has four laser cannons, one at the end of each solar
panel. Advanced targeting software gives the pilot
greater fire accuracy even during complex manoeuvre's.
While the Interceptor does not have a pair of laser
cannons below the pilots compartment, the cannon hardpoints
is still in place and additional cannons could be
mounted there if technicians could find the room for
additional power generators. |

The TIE Bomber was
the Empire's most common dedicated bomber. While slower
and less manoeuvrable than standard starfighters,
these bombers provide excellent "surgical strike"
potential against ground and deep space targets.
TIE Bombers have double
pods and elongated solar panels. The starboard pod
holds the pilot's compartment as well as flight computers,
communications, and life support. The port pod contains
the forward and main ordnance bays as well as the
targeting and delivery systems.
The TIE Bomber's weaponry
includes high yield proton bombs, guided concussion
missiles, orbital mines, and free falling thermal
detonators. Depending on the mission configuration,
TIE Bombers can carry eight concussion missiles, or
four proton torpedoes in the forward ordnance bay.
The main ordnance bay can carry eight more concussion
missiles, four additional proton torpedoes, eight
proton bombs, six orbital mines, or sixty four thermal
detonators. Two front firing laser cannons are placed
between the two pods providing protection from enemy
ships. |

An advanced, hyperspace-capable
starfighter is the direct result of advancements developed
for Darth Vader's TIE Advanced X1 prototype.
It is sometimes nicknamed
"TIE Advanced", but this is improper terminology
because it applies equally to other, completely distinct
models like Lord Vader's TIE X1. Developed prior to
the Battle of Hoth and used extensively in unpublicised
campaigns against mutinous and corrupt elements within
the Imperial Navy. Deployed only with elite and ultra-loyal
fighter units, due to its enormous expense. Production
declined after Palpatine's fall, for economic reasons.
For weaponry, the Avenger
has four laser cannons, one at the end of each solar
panel. Advanced targeting software gives the pilot
greater fire accuracy even during complex manoeuvres.
Two general-purpose warhead launchers are fitted either
side of the cockpit compartment carrying two missiles
each. |

Note: This
pack now contains the TIE Defender MkII the missile
chambers on the Mk II have them placed on the outside
of the cockpit pod, you can either install one or
the other but not both.
The TIE Defender was
a prototype Imperial fighter that was developed shortly
before the Battle of Endor. After initial testing,
which was believed to be personal supervised by top
Imperial Navy commanders, the TIE Defender was
deployed to a small number of elite TIE wings. Only
a few key personnel in the Navy command knew that
the ship was used to defeat rogue Imperial Admiral
Zarrin, who had planned to depose Emperor Palpatine.
The vessel represented
a radical departure from conventional TIE designs
and featured three sets of solar collection panels
mounted at equilateral points around the fighters
main hull, while keeping the standard cockpit pod.
At over 300,000 credits per unit,it was more than
five times as expensive as a standard TIE Fighter.
The TIE Defender features
four laser cannons and two ion cannons, which can
be fired independently for multiple targets or fire
linked for a concentrated assault. Rounding out the
TIE Defender's weaponry are two missiles launches
which can each be equipped with four proton torpedoes
and concussion missiles. For defence, the TIE Defender
has a pair of Novaldex shield generators. |

Lord Vader's personal
fighter belonged to this class of long-range (hyperdrive-capable)
fighters. It is sometimes regarded as a custom or
deluxe design, but this may be just a figment of hindsight,
since this class became a source of inspiration for
the later, famous Interceptor and Avenger models.
This heavy fighter may actually have been a commonplace
long-range fighter design used throughout much of
the history of the Empire: according to blueprints,
the star destroyer Imperator (the first of its class)
originally carried a number of unipod bent-wing "TIE
assault craft".
The "customisation"
of Vader's personal TIE might actually extend no further
than its provision of shields (This is a distinctive
feature; most TIE fighters are unshielded and rely
on superior piloting skill and tactical advantage.)
Alternatively, the modification might involve the
partial removal of shields or targeting systems, since
Vader's excellent piloting skills are augmented by
his mastery of the Force. Perhaps the speed or the
power of the weapons have been enhanced. Perhaps the
customisation involves life-support in the cockpit;
Vader's fighter might optionally provide him with
an environment similar to that created in his hyperbaric
meditation chambers.
In any case, this fighter
is significantly faster and more manoeuvrable than
its mass would suggest. Four thruster nozzles are
placed in two pairs above and below the extended tail
of the fighter. This section, containing a shield
and hyperdrive units, blocks the usual cockpit rear
viewport. Therefore a realistic holographic viewscreen
is mounted behind pilot seat to mimic the rear window
found in ordinary TIE starfighters. Judging by cockpit
interior details, the main hatch is still at the rear
of the ship, but the mechanism by which it opens must
be more complex than for TIEs with a simple unadorned
hull pod.
The wing pylons are
thicker than usual, and there are large holes in their
front faces. Through these gaps, a set of curved pipes
can be seen. The pipes run in the same general direction,
from the main hull towards the wings. These probably
carry outbound coolant. The partial exposure of these
pylon pipes to space may be a modification to further
improve the removal of excess heat. |
