Export your model

Save your project as a 3DS file

After your model are in all UV Mapped polygon mesh in Rhino you need to select your model part by part to export.

For my project the Launcher pointed by the yellow arrow should be one object the Pad under the launcher pointed by the green arrow should be one different object.

Now I hide all surface and polygon mesh except the launcher polygon mesh. It's trace all texture needed for my launcher.

!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!

You must verify if each polygon mesh use the texture from your project folder. When all the texture are OK you can save your project as 3DS file in your project folder with your texture. Saved as 8 bits bmp files.

Also never join your polygon mesh together inside Rhino. Why ? Rhino can't support multi-textured polygon mesh and only 1 texture will be used for all of your polygon mesh.

Now start a UV Mapper program like Lithunwarp or Ultimate Unwarp 3D and load the 3DS file you have just created. Check the scene, your model are not optimised and for the moment you can't use it to convert for OPZ or OPT file. You need to assign each polygon mesh to only one object. But before to do that go to the Material list and rename each material with the name of the bmp file they use. Go to the Material properties. Right click on mat0 on the context menu select Properties. This will help you to optimise your model. It's possible for you to find 2, 3 ,4 same bmp file. In that case don't rename them. We will deal with them later.

When you have finished to rename the material list, you need to select each polygon group sharing the same texture and assign the same material to all of them. After you have completed this delete all none renamed material because they are no longer used in your project.

When you optimised your different polygon mesh about with their texture you need to transfer all polygon mesh into only one object. For my project I have named it : "Launcher"

Group2.jpg

Under Select click on "ALL" when I have all the mesh selected I assign them to the "Launcher" group. As soon the polygon mesh as assigned to the "Launcher" group I unselect them to avoid any mistake and accidentally delete my model. Now I can delete all group except the group named "Launcher" because they are empty and they are no longer used in this project.

Now the 3DS files as been optimised and ready to go. I just need to do the same procedure with all part of my project. When I have finished the Optimizations of my 3DS files I can merge them into 1 file. After that I'm in business and it's time to convert the model into an OPZ file and add the final setting in Optech and create your OPT file.
